Product Overview

The Ericsson Cradlepoint E400-5GE is the current-generation enterprise branch router: a 3GPP Release 17 5G modem rated to 4.67 Gbps with 8-receive and network slicing, tri-band Wi-Fi 7, five 2.5 GbE ports, dual physical SIMs plus an embedded eSIM, and a 2.4 Gbps stateful firewall. It replaces the E100 for new small and mid-size branch builds and is the first Cradlepoint branch router with Wi-Fi 7.

The eSIM matters for procurement as much as for engineering: a carrier profile can be pushed from NetCloud without anyone touching a SIM tray, which is how RCN pre-provisions units for sites that ship straight from our depot to the field. An optional battery keeps the router up for eight hours through a power event.

What the SKU includes: every option on this page bundles the router with its Ericsson NetCloud plan for the term you choose (Essentials, or Essentials + Advanced, for 1, 3, or 5 years). NetCloud is required to configure and manage Cradlepoint hardware, and the hardware warranty runs for as long as the plan is active.

Ericsson Cradlepoint E400 datasheet

Right for you if

  • You are standardizing a branch fleet for the next five years and want Release 17 5G and Wi-Fi 7 from day one
  • eSIM provisioning from NetCloud fits how you ship hardware to remote sites
  • Every wired port needs 2.5 GbE for Wi-Fi 7 access points or multi-gig workstations
  • A 2.4 Gbps firewall is the floor, not the ceiling

E400 vs. E100 vs. E3000

Choose the E400 for any new small or mid-size branch. The E100-5G is end of sale and only makes sense to extend an existing E100 fleet. The E3000 still wins when you need nine-plus ports, 802.3bt PoE, or an MC400 second modem. For LTE-only IoT sites, see the S400.

Common deployments

New branch and clinic builds, retail and pop-up locations provisioned before they ship, hybrid-WAN offices pairing 5G with fiber, and AI or video workloads that need multi-gig LAN.

What RCN adds

  • Pre-provisioning: RCN can stage the unit in your NetCloud account so it ships ready to power on
  • Installation nationwide through RCN's in-house install team (quoted separately)
  • U.S.-based 24/7 NOC monitoring and support as a managed service (quoted separately)
  • Purchase on GSA Schedule, NASPO ValuePoint, Sourcewell, OMNIA Partners, or Equalis Group, or on a PO for approved accounts

FAQ

Is the E400 FirstNet certified?
Not as of the current Ericsson datasheet, which lists carrier certification for AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon with no public-safety certification yet. If FirstNet Trusted is a requirement today, the E300-5G and E3000 carry it; ask RCN for the latest status.

Is it in stock?
The E400 is a configure-to-order item at RCN; lead times vary by NetCloud package. Ask for a current ship date with your quote.

Is the NetCloud subscription included?
Yes. Each SKU pairs the E400-5GE with the NetCloud plan and term shown in the option name. Renewals are quoted before the term ends so the device never drops off management.

Does it come with antennas and a power supply?
Yes. Cradlepoint ships the cellular paddle antennas and the power supply in the box for these part numbers; see the specifications above for what is included with this model.

Can we purchase on a purchase order or government contract?
Yes. RCN sells through GSA Schedule and cooperative contracts including NASPO ValuePoint, Sourcewell, OMNIA Partners, and Equalis Group, and can invoice approved accounts on a PO.

What if it turns out to be the wrong model?
Talk to RCN before you order. We deploy this hardware every week and will tell you if a smaller or larger unit fits better; the comparison section above is a good start.
