Frequently Asked Questions

What is POTS Link?
POTS Link is RCN Technologies' cellular replacement for copper POTS lines. When your carrier retires a copper line — the kind that powers fire alarm panels, elevator emergency phones, fax machines, and access control systems — POTS Link steps in as the permanent replacement. It plugs directly into your existing analog equipment and connects to a 4G/5G cellular network. Your devices don't change. They still get a dial tone. POTS Link is the new line.
Who is POTS Link for?
POTS Link is for any organization that has received — or expects to receive — a copper retirement notice from AT&T, Verizon, Lumen, Frontier, or another carrier. That includes government agencies, school districts, hospitals, commercial property owners, and any facility with fire alarm panels, elevator phones, or analog security systems still running on copper. If you have a POTS line, you need a replacement plan.
What equipment does POTS Link work with?
POTS Link is a drop-in replacement. It works with fire alarm panels (NFPA 72 compliant), elevator emergency phones (ASME A17.1 compliant), fax machines, building entry systems, security and access control systems, and standard analog desk phones. No rewiring. No equipment replacement. The POTS Link service gateway plugs directly into your existing analog port.
How does the cellular connection work?
POTS Link has its own integrated cellular modem. It connects directly to a 4G/5G cellular network — no Cradlepoint router required, no separate modem. The device supports multi-carrier LTE with automatic failover: if one carrier experiences an outage, it switches to a backup carrier automatically. For life-safety systems like fire panels and elevator phones, that redundancy is what keeps you compliant.
How long does installation take?
RCN Technologies averages 19 days from signed contract to full deployment — including site survey, equipment configuration, cellular carrier provisioning, and system testing. For organizations on cooperative contracts (GSA Schedule, NASPO ValuePoint, Sourcewell, OMNIA Partners, or Equalis Group), procurement can be completed in days rather than months.
Is POTS Link available through government contracts?
Yes. POTS Link is available on the GSA Schedule, NASPO ValuePoint, Sourcewell, OMNIA Partners, and Equalis Group. These cooperative contracts allow government agencies, school districts, and municipalities to issue a task order directly without running a full competitive bid process.
