Product Overview

The InHand VG710 is a 5G in-vehicle gateway for fleets that need more than a router: police and fire vehicles, school buses, transit, and utility trucks where the same box has to carry the mobile data terminal, cameras, and telematics, and report where the vehicle is even when GNSS drops out in a tunnel or garage.

It combines a 5G SA/NSA modem with dual SIM, four gigabit Ethernet ports, dual-band Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth, multi-constellation GNSS with inertial dead reckoning, and a full vehicle I/O set: two CAN buses, J1708, LIN, RS-232, RS-485, digital and analog inputs, digital outputs, and 1-Wire for driver ID. It is IP64 sealed in a die-cast aluminum housing, runs on 9-36 V DC with ignition-sense delayed shutdown, and can run customer applications in Python, C/C++, or Docker at the edge.

Choosing a modem

  • NRQ5: newer 3GPP Release 16 5G module. Choose this for new deployments unless your carrier or integrator specifies otherwise.
  • NRQ3: Release 15 5G module with LAA support. Choose this to match an existing fleet standard.

Right for you if

FAQ

Which carriers are certified?
The VG710 is listed as certified on Verizon and AT&T, plus FCC, IC, and PTCRB. Confirm FirstNet or T-Mobile requirements with RCN before a public safety purchase.

Can it pull vehicle diagnostics?
Yes. Two CAN buses, J1708, and LIN provide access to vehicle data; digital and analog inputs handle ignition, door, and sensor states, and 1-Wire supports driver ID.

How is it managed?
Through InHand Device Manager and InConnect. It also publishes to third-party clouds over MQTT, AMQP, REST, and other protocols. Ask RCN about current platform terms.

Can RCN install and support it?
Yes. RCN's in-house install team handles vehicle installations, and our U.S.-based 24/7 NOC can monitor and support the fleet as a managed service. Both are quoted separately from the hardware.

How long does it take to ship?
InHand hardware ships direct from the manufacturer's U.S. distribution. Lead times vary by model and quantity; ask us for a current estimate before you order if timing is critical.

Can we purchase on a purchase order or government contract?
Yes. RCN sells through GSA Schedule and cooperative contracts including NASPO ValuePoint, Sourcewell, OMNIA Partners, and Equalis Group, and we can invoice approved accounts on a PO. Ask us to route your order through the right vehicle.
